People Making A Difference Through Community Service Inc falls under the Voluntarism Promotion category: Organizations that encourage people to volunteer.
PMD volunteers sponsor and assemble print-Braille, STEM children's books so that they are available equitably at the same price as the print-only versions. On 10/30/23 PMD volunteers did SHARK LADY: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean's Most Fearless Scientist, so that blind and sighted children and adults can read together.
Genie Clark was an Asian-American woman who “dared to dive, defy, discover, and inspire” in her quest to show that sharks are beautiful and that women can be scientists.
PMD, Braille and STEM literacy, and raising awareness of lesser-known role models serve to inspire youth and diversify STEM fields.
PMD’s award winning, well planned service projects engage volunteers in meaningful, hands-on and virtual work that effectively meets real needs and educates volunteers about the context of their work. Participants consistently feel energized and motivated from making a difference as PMD volunteers.
PMD partners with businesses of all sizes to identify clear community service goals and objectives and then to develop appropriate, in-person employee volunteer opportunities. PMD’s involvement ranges from research and project development to complete planning and full-service execution, such that employers need only recruit participants. PMD offers experience, innovation, and convenience. Corporate partners have included Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, bluebirdbio, and Novartis, plus pre-pandemic BNY Mellon and Google.
