The Mission of Art21 is to educate and expand access to contemporary art through the production of documentary films, resources, and public programs.
The Vision of Art21 is to inspire a more creative and inclusive world through the works and words of contemporary artists.
Art21 is best known for its award-winning documentary films, providing a window into the minds of artists and inspiring viewers to consider the world in new ways. Our films center the artist’s voice, offering intimate access to their inspirations, investigations, and methodologies of making.
Through the Educators and Ambassadors Programs, Art21 offers multi-disciplinary teachers training on using contemporary art as a learning platform to promote critical and creative thinking across all subject areas.
Art21 provides in-persona and virtual screenings, artist talks, and other events that prompt the public to question, discuss, and think critically about the universal themes found in Art21 films.
To promote deeper engagement with and understanding of artists’ works and ideas, Art21 provides varied educational resources that expand on the themes and concepts explored in our films. These include full length books, free Educator Guides to accompany select films, film playlists, and curatorial and educational articles in the READ section of the Art21 website.
