Friends Of Osd

Hometown Hero

Friends Of Osd was created in 2006 to enhance the education of students at Oregon School for the Deaf. We have helped to purchase: a computer-controlled router, a TV recording studio, and equipment, trips to the Shakespearean festival, special needs equipment, a literacy program, a greenhouse program, family learning, academic bowl competition, summer camperships and much, much more.

Each year there is a Poetry Out Loud competition. About 12 students from that experience are selected to travel to Ashland, OR, see interpreted plays at the Shakespeare Festival and meet the actors. Some of our bravest students have also educated the public about American Sign Language by publicly performing their own Poetry Out Loud signed creative pieces.

Programs

TV studio and equipment

The TV studio, its cameras and computers are used every day by students at OSD. They create a weekly community access program about happenings around the school for campus viewing but also for viewing by families who live all over the State of Oregon.

Greenhouse program

Every year OSD students learn about biology and business by growing their own vegetables and flowers and selling them, not only on campus, but also at a local farmers' market.
