Our Mission and Vision
Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of the Philadelphia Region supports families on their children’s medical journeys with a community of comfort and hope. We envision a world where every family can focus on their child’s well-being.
Conveniently located near several pediatric hospitals, including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, our Chestnut Street location provides a temporary residence to families with the comforts of home while also offering the support of staff and volunteers.
The Chestnut Street House is located in a historic building that was expanded in 1995 and again in 2019 with the addition of the Jill and Alan B. Miller Tower. This House serves a total of 127 families per night.
Conveniently located next to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, our Front & Erie location provides a temporary residence to families with the comforts of home while also offering the support of staff and volunteers.
Opened in 2008, the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House at Front & Erie offers a homelike environment for 20 families a night.
We offer two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) on the oncology unit and in the Seashore House. An additional Family Room is located in the Critical Care Unit at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
Families with hospitalized children spend day after day at their child’s bedside, offering comfort and trying to make a very scary time a little less frightening. Children facing serious diagnoses often spend weeks or even months at a time in the hospital during their treatment, while their parents, grandparents, and other caregivers stay right by their side—making sure they never feel alone despite being far from home.
Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms extend the support of our two Ronald McDonald Houses into the hospital by offering a quiet, comfortable respite place for caregivers to rest and regroup during their children’s treatment—helping them to reduce stress and focus on their own health and well-being while they take care of their children. These welcoming hospitality lounges are designed to help parent and guardians forget they are in a hospital setting, even though they are just steps from their children’s beds.
Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains—just three hours outside of Philadelphia—or virtually on screen – Ronald McDonald Camp (RMC) looks like a traditional summer camp, but as anyone who has been there knows, it is so much more. RMC is a place where kids with cancer, and their siblings, can enjoy just being kids. It’s a week of fun and friendship and freedom from being different. It’s a chance to experience new activities and acquire new skills in a supportive, nurturing environment. It’s a time when kids can talk openly about cancer and everybody else understands.
Camp is made possible by our community of generous private and corporate donors, in addition to our volunteers who donate their time and talents. There are many ways to get involved; please see the links to our volunteer and donor pages.
“It is the most magical experience for both my kids. Cancer has had such a large impact on my kids’ lives, and this is one of the only positive and completely fun things cancer has brought to our family! Both of my girls thrive at camp and feel normal about the way cancer has affected their childhood!!”—A Grateful Caregiver
The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, operated in partnership with St. Christopher’s Foundation for Children, provides comprehensive and continuous oral healthcare to children in North Philadelphia. There is a critical need in this area, and the Care Mobile removes barriers so that children who most need dental and oral health care and treatment can access care and prevent their oral health conditions from worsening. There is currently no other program that provides such services to the youngest residents of North Philadelphia. We visit patients at Head Start communities, early childhood centers, elementary schools, and shelters. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a Dental Home: it provides an ongoing relationship between the dentist and the patient in a continually accessible, family-centered way.
