Uganda Village Project

Uganda Village Project’s (UVP) mission is to facilitate community health and well-being in rural Uganda through improved access, education, and prevention.

We envision a future in which all Ugandan communities will have the means to effectively create and implement their own health and development solutions.

Uganda Village Project (UVP) was formed in 2003 to promote public health and sustainable development in the rural communities of the Iganga District of southeastern Uganda. Since our beginnings, UVP has worked with rural communities in Iganga to promote public health and sustainable development of this marginalized district. By 2009, UVP had multiple full-time staff members, an office in Iganga, and was registered in both Uganda and the USA. We are a 501(c)(3) charity non-profit.

REPAIR CAMPS

- Through village outreaches, health center referrals, radio shows, and word-of-mouth, we identify women suffering from fistula

- We take them to “repair camps” at Kamuli Mission Hospital where surgeons from Uganda Childbirth Injury Fund provide treatment

- After surgery, UVP provides care, lodging, food, and healing services

SOCIAL INTEGRATION

- Many women return to their domestic duties immediately, requiring heavy lifting or vigorous activity

- We provide extended care and skills training to the most vulnerable to ensure they heal properly and can support their family upon returning to the village

FISTULA AMBASSADORS

- Former fistula patients and male advocate who act as local experts
