Every child experiences safe water, a healthy community, and God’s love.
Water for Good is a faith-based, non-profit organization committed to creating a future where no one dies from a preventable WASH-related disease. In partnership with local churches and leaders, we help communities establish access to reliable water and critical sanitation and hygiene practices—ensuring sustainable change, empowered citizens, and healthy futures.
Our work is crucial because the water crisis is unacceptable, impacting 703 million people who lack access to basic water services. Every two minutes, a child under the age of five dies from a preventable WASH-related disease. When 1-in-12 people around the world lack reliable access to safe water and 1-in-5 lack access to a toilet, they also lack the opportunity to truly thrive.
It affects health, hinders education, perpetuates poverty, and deepens inequality. But together, we can be a source for change that ends the crisis.
Jim Hocking grew up in the Central African Republic which fostered in him a deep love for the country and its people. He saw first-hand that people’s basic physical needs were unmet, AIDS was ravaging the region, and the realities of poverty and war were creating hopelessness. Jim wanted to build something with the people of CAR that would be sustainable and could withstand political upheaval.
In an act of obedience, 2004 was the beginning of what Jim would eventually call “Water for Good.” There are many challenges to getting fresh water to remote villages and getting a well drilled is only the first step. Jim knew the well pumps would inevitably break and the village would be right back where it started: without safe drinking water. He knew sustainability was key to the success of any well, so along with the Drilling Team, Jim also created a Maintenance Team.
Now, with the merging of Lifewater International and Water for Good, people of Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, and Cambodia are gaining access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene training. People are staying healthy, generating more income, and making a difference in their communities —for good.
