M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital c/o University of Minnesota Foundation

Established

M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital provides a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation. Our clinical staff apply innovative approaches to creating medical breakthroughs based their work with patients and on findings through research at the University of Minnesota. This has led to several firsts, including the first successful pediatric blood marrow transplant, infant heart transplant in Minnesota and cochlear ear implant surgery for a child. Through teamwork and collaboration, we respectfully address the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of pediatric patients and their families.

NutriSource Facility Dog Program

Facility dogs are highly trained support resources for pediatric patients and their families. Facility dogs receive years of advanced, specialized training dedicated to educating and placing service dogs in healthcare settings. Unlike other therapy animals, a facility dog can be in a patient room during medical procedures to comfort children and families during particularly stressful moments. They can also conduct special therapeutic interventions with a child, which may include encouraging a child to walk after surgery, helping a child to learn to take medicine, providing comfort and support during painful moments, or reducing anxiety before or during a procedure.
