The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary enriches the lives of all beings by promoting compassion and acceptance. By honoring the bond between animals, humans and the environment, we’re creating a kinder and gentler world for all.
The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation is a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization working to promote compassion and healing through human-animal connection. The foundation was started in 2013 to commemorate and honor the life of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a six-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy and passionate animal lover.
In 2014, the CVH Foundation was awarded more than 34 acres of CT state farmland by a unanimous legislative decision, which would become home to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary. Since its inception, the organization has raised more than $8 million in funding, supporting its breadth of programming that by honoring the human-animal connection, is providing tools and skills that translate into compassionate and accepting human-human interactions. Specifically, the sanctuary focuses on environmental stewardship, provides no cost humane education curriculum and community workshops, aid for seniors to keep and care for their pets, and property revitalization efforts. Through caring, educating and protecting animals, the sanctuary’s programs have become a catalyst in cultivating human empathy.

Senior Paw Project
The sanctuary honors and supports the human-animal bond through our Senior Paw Project, pet adoption events and wildlife resource assistance…saving and changing lives every single day.
Honoring the bond between caregivers and their pets, the Senior Paw Project provides critically needed pet food, veterinary care assistance and foster/respite care to senior pet owners struggling to keep or care for their animals.
The Senior Paw Project is a referral-based program. Partnering with municipal housing authorities, non-profit senior housing providers, food pantries and veterinarians, we step in to prevent the difficult choice of feeding themselves or their pets, or foregoing veterinary care due to financial hardship.
Free Community Educational Events
The sanctuary is committed to providing the tools and resources to help care and protect habitats and the creatures who call them home. Whether near or far, our FREE workshops, on-line programming, in-school curriculum, and fieldtrips focus on building kindness and compassion. Through caring, educating and protecting animals, the sanctuary’s programs have become a catalyst in cultivating human empathy.
Environment
The sanctuary is committed to supporting and protecting the natural environment through education initiatives and land stewardship of its 34-acre property. The sanctuary has made significant positive impacts on the land and continues to implement new initiatives to foster the diverse ecosystem of meadows, woodlands, waterways and trails.
Catherine's Butterfly Party
Every year, Catherine asked for a birthday party that would bring all her favorite animals together. Catherine’s Butterfly Party is that wish fulfilled, bringing hundreds of adoptable animals to potential adopters at NO COST to the rescues. Welcoming over 12,000 guests to this one day Free Family Festival with Mega Pet Adoption, Catherine's Butterfly Party provides a glimpse of the collective work of the sanctuary. We bring all your favorite animal ambassadors and nature exhibits together in one place! The community is given the opportunity to meet amazing conservationists, wildlife rehabilitators and animal educators who are working to protect and improve the lives of the natural world.
