Founded in 2015 by veteran actors and educators Janeece Freeman Clark and Daryl Stewart, Vanguard Theater Company is a unique 501(c)(3) committed to changing the narrative through theater dedicated to DREAM: Diversity, Reciprocity, Education, Activism & Mentorship.
DREAM VTC and VTC Kids are educational programs that mimic a professional theatrical rehearsal process culminating in public performances, and also providing opportunities for participants to bring live theater to populations with limited access, thus teaching the gift of reciprocity.
Vanguard Theater Company's signature Broadway Buddy Mentorship Program offers emerging musical theater artists, ages 12 - 24, a unique opportunity for one-on-one mentorship with some of Broadway's most accomplished and rising performers, culminating in a once in a lifetime cabaret performance.
SUMMER STOCK is an intensive 16-day summer-stock sleep-away program for the serious musical theater performer between the ages of 12–18; the staff is led by professional actors and directors. Our campers leave each year saying that it was the best two weeks of their life! They learn and grow, and they have an amazing time doing it.
Our education and performance programs teach theater skills to students grades K-12 while focusing, age appropriately, on racial literacy and social justice.
Vanguard Theater Company is a non-profit organization that relies greatly on the generosity of volunteers. We invite you to join us -– help out year-round, during shows or BOTH! We will do our best to make the hard work of volunteering fun!
