Capital Good Fund is a nonprofit, U.S. Treasury-certified Community Development Financial Institution headquartered in Providence, RI. Our mission is to create pathways out of poverty and advance a green economy through inclusive financial services. Since 2009, we have financed over 5,000 small-dollar personal loans totaling $10.6 million (with a 95% repayment rate) and graduated more than 1,660 families through our Financial & Health Coaching program. As a social justice organization, we believe in the vision of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Winner: to "put poverty into museums" through microfinance.
Six-years ago, Capital Good Fund was also able to help Sherlie Martinez, 30, of Providence when she needed to fix her windshield. “I didn’t have any way to get the money,” Martinez remembers. Capital Good Fund, a nonprofit, provided the single mother of a young daughter an emergency loan of $300 to get the repair done. Martinez turned to Capital Good Fund again in 2015 when her 1996 Nissan Maxima kept breaking down. “I had a good job and a good home, but going outside and being unsure your car is going to start was very stressful,” she says. Capital Good Fund approved her for a $12,000 dollar loan at a reasonable 11 percent interest rate to buy a 2013 Kia Optima, which she is on track to pay off on time next year.
