The Paseo Project

Since 2014, the Paseo Project has brought projection, performance, and installation art to the streets of Taos with free, community events.

The PASEO was founded in 2014 as a project of Taos Fall Arts Festival. J. Matt Thomas, Agnes Chavez, Janet Webb, Molly Robertson, Anita McKeown and David Mapes formed a core team and together they established the enduring mission, guidelines and ethos. Its original purpose was to connect the multiple venues of Fall Arts’ exhibitions with street activities to keep visitors engaged and moving. Over the years the event has grown, from one night to two nights, hosting dozens of artists regionally, nationally, and internationally. In 2016, the PASEO team took the leap into a more sustainable model and became a 501c-3 nonprofit, The Paseo Project. The Paseo Project offers year-round programs and events in addition to hosting the annual fall PASEO festival.

Programs

The PASEO Festival

The PASEO outdoor art festival brings projection, installation, and performance art to the streets of Taos, New Mexico every fall. This free, community centered event features local, regional, national, and international artists with work that is site-specific, context responsive and participatory. For two nights, sunset to 11pm, the PASEO brings the community together with a creative and inspiring shared experience.

The Artist in Residence Program

The Artist in Residence Program brings artists from all over the world to Taos to work with our community on a public art project. The program is an opportunity for working artists to activate their projects within the community of Taos, while exposing our community to new technologies, processes, and ideas.

Youth Internship Program

The Paseo Project’s internship program builds pathways to careers with paid positions and workshops in event production and technical arts training offered to northern New Mexicans aged 16 – 25.

Public Art & Murals

Bringing art to the street, the public sculpture and crosswalk mural project hosts local artists and creatives for seasonal installation of our existing crosswalks and public spaces within the historic district. These public art projects brings liveliness and color to our streets while showing investment and pride in our local art scene.
