Oceanic Global reminds us of humanity’s original role in earth’s broader ecosystems and guides us in restoring equilibrium to our blue planet. Our core programs are designed to deepen humanity’s connection to the ocean as the lifeblood of the earth, provide tangible solutions for resilience, and create blueprints for coexisting in harmony with our natural world.
While today’s landscape of ocean nonprofits at large focuses on forward-facing awareness campaigns and/or specific policy demands, Oceanic Global’s work focuses on making positive action possible for the masses. Since our inception in 2016, we have put our heads down to offer tangible tools and blueprints that have since proven to be successful in creating a groundswell of action and driving measurable change from a grassroots level as well as across cross-sector industry, government, and amongst other leading decision-makers globally.
And, while we still support campaigns and coalitions through our programs and partnerships, rather than taking on one-specific campaign at a time, we focus our efforts incubating ideas and bringing together community to bridge understanding and engagement with the largest knowledge gaps we believe exists in our modern world – the fact that humanity is indeed part of nature, and in protecting the natural world, we are also protecting ourselves.
A proven multi-stakeholder solution to eliminate plastics and empower sustainable business at scale.
Launched in 2018 initially as 'The Oceanic Standard,' the Blue Standard is a first-of-its-kind cross-industry standard the verifies businesses' efforts to eliminate single-use plastics, implement effective waste management infrastructure, and adopt comprehensive sustainability measures that protect our blue planet.
Created with the support of Oceanic Global's Scientific Advisory Board, the Blue standard offers specialized programs for industries including: hospitality, tourism, music, events, office spaces, professional sports, consumer packaged goods, and more.
In addition to third-party verification and sustainability advisory services, blue also offers free educational resources, training programs, open-source transformation guides, and a vetted network of over 200+ sustainable solution providers worldwide.
Bridging Gaps in Knowledge and Connection to Ignite Widespread Action
The ocean is so vast that its issues can seem too complex and out of reach. At Oceanic Global, we believe that understanding the ocean is the first step to protecting it. Our Education & Campaigns program bridges gaps in knowledge and connection to both engage new audiences in ocean conservation as well as to deepen the efforts of those already involved.
Since inception, the Education & Campaigns program has activated over160,000 ocean advocates across 175 regions worldwide through mediums of art, science, ancient wisdom, wellness & innovation.
The people who live near the coast have long been the ones to steward our oceanic ecosystems, yet they are also the ones suffering the brunt of humanity’s actions. In 2023, we launched the Oceanic Global Grants Program to place power back in the hands of those most impacted by the climate crisis and to help them build resilience for their local communities and ecosystems that we all depend on.
Our expertise in crafting & executing on scalable impact frameworks as well as our thorough process including: sourcing and vetting, onboarding and project management, skills training, participatory design, and guiding of impact assessments, uniquely position Oceanic Global to equitably and effectively distribute funds. With the support of donations and corporate partnerships, our Grants Program allocates funding directly to vetted solutions on the ground, provides consistent support to community-led initiatives, and fosters long-term sustainable impact through collaboration and empowerment.
Empowering localized leadership and conservation initiatives to scale global impact
There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Localized impact is necessary to scale global resilience. Oceanic Global’s regional Hubs are volunteer-based extensions of the Oceanic Global team that empower local leaders to make conservation inherent within their communities.
Hub leadership receives guidance from OG headquarters to carry out the broader mission. This includes hosting awareness and fundraising events, implementing the Blue Standard and its industry solutions among local stakeholders, and collaborating with decision-makers to support conservation initiatives and set new precedents for environmental stewardship in their regions.
Oceanic Global currently has active Hubs in cities including London, Los Angeles, and New York as well as their Universal Hub. Hub activities have additionally spanned across Hong Kong, Mexico, France, Spain, Portugal, Cameroon, the Caribbean and more.
At Oceanic Global, we are passionate about creating localized impact, raising awareness and bringing communities together to foster collaborative action. Explore our upcoming events and discover how you can make a difference. Together, we can be the voice for the ocean and create a brighter, more sustainable future.
