Working Classroom cultivates the artistic, civic, and academic minds of youth through in-depth arts projects with contemporary artists to amplify historically ignored voices, resist systemic injustices, and imagine a more equitable society.
Working Classroom does this by creating opportunities for intergenerational arts and cultural learning, youth centered arts and cultural leadership, and art-based community-led action.
The Working Classroom community has made a very large impact on my personal morals and beliefs and has provided me with artistic role models and goals. Working Classroom has continuously created an environment free for me to express myself with pride. The people at Working Classroom never fail to encourage me to create to my full potential." -Isabel, WC youth participant
Youth grow as multidisciplinary artists and cultural organizers. Leaders are mentored by WC’s network of artists, staff, and peer-mentor/apprentices to shape public arts projects, community engagement, WC showcases and events, and inform future projects. YAL members will also have the WC community's support and resources to pursue their personal, creative, academic, and professional goals.
Led by professional lead artists and community input, youth artists create in-depth public art projects like murals, films, and plays and participate in civic engagement and events.
We offer workshops that develop artists as agents of change, using artistic expression to resist systemic injustice and to demand a more equitable society. Our workshops offer all levels of workshops across multiple arts and culture disciplines. WC participants learn artistic process as they are mentored by and taught by diverse professional artists.
