ALLEVIATE POVERTY BY RESTORING NATURE IN CRITICAL BIODIVERSITY HOTSPOTS
Purpose on the Planet provides improved livelihoods for highly vulnerable communities in Africa through large-scale tree planting & long-term forest conservation programs, in order to address the harshest impacts of extreme poverty today & climate change tomorrow.
REWRITE OUR STORY: Every $20 donated to our ReWrite Our Story initiative supports:
RELIEVING POVERTY – You will fund one full day of work and fair income for people living in extreme poverty
RESTORING NATURE – The work will plant and protect 45 mangroves or ficuses on your behalf at two project sites in Africa
REMOVING CO2 – This level of fresh planting sequesters around 1 metric ton of CO2 during a typical maturation period
REDUCING EMISSIONS – Become better informed on low carbon lifestyle choices through our Sustainable Solutions series.
Our program supports over 1000 acres of state-owned forest around the village of Antsanitia, which the Malagasy maintain was officially entrusted to the community members of VOI Taratra in 2012.
Through our work as part of the Accelerated Restoration Collaborative and by focusing on vital mangrove ecosystems, we’re using our “Recruit & Restore” methodology to create an immediate impact on human well-being, as well as long-term climate adaptation and for the villagers around Antsanitia.
The valuable work of restoring mangrove forests is currently creating life-changing opportunities for the members of VOI Taratra. As a result, the last decade at Antsanitia has seen many significant positive changes to both the forest and the lives of the people, as they restore their native ecosystems. These results are a testament to the positive impact of our humanitarian and environmental nonprofit mission, and also to the power of combining nature-based solutions with community-led forest management.
The Tuungane Project was launched by The Nature Conservancy in 2012 to conserve Lake Tanganyika, its ecosystems and affected communities. The project has already expanded protected areas to cover more than 50% of Mahale’s total forest area. It has also proven the viability of carbon enterprises that would pay villages for protecting their forests.
We support the long-term survival of the trees by providing tangible work and income benefits for local people, plus support to the Tree Planting Associations. Local community members may assume roles at tree nurseries (seed preparation, seedling germination and distribution) or adopt a range of responsibilities that are assigned to community-based tree-monitoring champions.
These important partners carry out the essential work of local advocacy and forest-conservation mentoring within the community. To date, this effort has been shown to achieve an exceptional 86% survival rate, thanks to such strong community-led stewardship.
Global Impact. Local Action. Shared Purpose.
A unique way to inspire positive action all year long
Organizations increasingly prioritize ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainability because they influence everything from employee engagement and customer loyalty to brand reputation and public trust.
But lasting engagement doesn’t come from information alone. It comes from creating recurring moments of inspiration that help people feel connected to real-world impact—and empowered to take part in it.
So, maybe it's time to try something different:
✔ A fresh alternative to typical sustainability initiatives
✔ A shared experience built around purpose and positive action
✔ A year-long journey across 12 Global Goals
✔ Simple tools that turn awareness into everyday habits
🌿 Restore Ecosystems. Strengthen Communities.
Through the ReWrite Our Story program, every $5 contribution per team or family member helps create work and income for a community participant living in extreme poverty to plant 10 trees on behalf of your workplace or family.
The Recruit & Restore projects we support in Madagascar and Tanzania are recognized by the United Nations as a 2030 Sustainable Development Goals “Acceleration Action” for advancing 12 of these Global Goals by supporting:
✔ Local livelihoods and economic opportunity
✔ Ecosystem and biodiversity protection ✔ Carbon capture and climate resilience
A Year of Global Impact, Local Action & Shared Purpose
Every participant also receives year-long access to two monthly enrichment series that explore the 12 UN Sustainable Development Goals—from Zero Hunger and Clean Water to Climate Action and Life on Land—and share how we can address the same challenges right here at home.
Short, engaging monthly materials connect the real-world impact being created in Africa with practical ways to contribute locally to the same goal:
Your Global Impact
See how your contribution is helping vulnerable communities through:
✔ Clear insight into the positive change being created in Africa
✔ Tangible evidence of real-world impact
✔ Inspiring stories from the project location
Sustainable Solutions: Making Global Local
Explore practical ways to bring those same global lessons closer to home.
✔ Simple actions to try immediately
✔ Tools and apps for sustainable living
✔ Meaningful ideas to share with colleagues, friends, or family
Together, these monthly experiences connect: Global challenges → Real-world impact → Everyday action
🤝 A Small Contribution. A Year of Shared Impact.
If you’re looking for something unique and meaningful for your workplace—or even your family—this is a powerful way to continue the spirit of World Environment Day long after June 5th has passed.
This is far more than a one-time charitable contribution.
It’s a simple, engaging way to bring people together around something hopeful, educational, and action-oriented throughout the year.
🎯 By the end of the year, participants will:
✔ Appreciate the impact of your organization’s or family’s contribution
✔ Better understand today’s most important global challenges
✔ Feel connected to the real-world impact you're supporting—together
✔ Develop simple habits that support positive change
✔ Share ideas and actions with others in their workplace or home
One idea. One habit. Shared with others. That’s how meaningful change begins.
