“The Brower Youth Awards has definitely changed my life, and it’s had a big impact on my life. I think what it did for me as a young woman of color, working in a small town, on toxic waste issues, it really showed me that I was someone to be invested in, and that I could have a place in this work, not just for a moment, but in the long term.” - Shadia Fayne Wood (2004 BYA Recipient)

In 2019, Earth Island project, Food Shift, recovered 21,732 pounds of food from the waste stream and distributed it to those in need.
