At Furniture Repair Bank, we are reducing the climate impact of furniture waste by promoting the circular economy of repair and redesign. We empower individuals and build a resilient community by teaching repair and refinishing skills to volunteers, talents that are less frequently passed down through the generations in our increasingly disposable economy. Our volunteers and donors learn that worn or broken furniture does not have to be destined for a landfill. Once restored to like-new condition, the items are gifted to community members in need, such as domestic violence survivors, refugees, young adults aging out of foster care, and the formerly unhoused.
With the help of our dedicated volunteers and partners, we revive unwanted furniture and provide it to families in need, addressing climate issues and creating a positive impact locally.
We are connected to the beneficiaries of our services through multiple agencies and institutions. These benevolent organizations provide support to our most vulnerable community members; refugees, people emerging from homeless situations, youth graduating from foster care, and domestic violence survivors.
We conduct regular collection events at the Seattle Transfer Stations, literally stopping furniture waste at the source.
At each event, our volunteers and staff ask customers if they have furniture they intend to unload. If they do, we assess the pieces and determine if they are items we accept and will be able to restore, and if so, they are loaded into our truck instead of the dump!
Whether you’re an organization that wants a more engaged workforce or just a group of friends that want to bond over a high-impact activity, we’re here to help you reach your goals.
We specialize in group volunteer events that require no special skills or advanced preparation.
