Habitat for Humanity Halton Mississauga Dufferin

We empower working lower income families to build strength, stability, and independence by providing affordable housing that enables financial equity and lasting change.

“Having a home from Habitat for Humanity Halton Mississauga Dufferin has given my family stability and safety. A place to call home in an economic market where even renting seems out of reach. My children are blossoming and our neighbours are wonderful. A Habitat home has made the dream of owning a home a reality.”

Programs

Youth Skilled Trades Program

Empowering youth in the skilled trades by building, simple, decent, and affordable tiny homes. The Youth Skilled Trades program gives high school students the opportunity to explore the skilled trades while making a tangible impact. Located directly on their school campus, students participate in a real-world construction site building a tiny home. Working under the supervision of professional skilled tradespeople, students gain hands-on residential construction experience such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.

In partnership with our local school boards, we seamlessly integrate into the existing high school curriculum which allows us to engage approximately 75 students on each tiny home.

Our Builds

Affordable housing is no longer just a low-income issue. Homeownership in our communities is increasingly out of reach for all but the top income earners or those with generational wealth. For many Canadians, the cost of living has become unsustainable, with the average home price in the GTA reaching $1.1 million. Canada needs to build an additional 3.5 million homes by the end of the decade, and Habitat HMD is committed to being a vital part of that solution. We are dedicated to creating more homes and advocating for improved affordability for families like yours.

Evolving from our grassroots origins, we have grown into a large nonprofit managed by a dedicated staff team. While volunteers remain essential to our mission, the traditional model of volunteers building single-family homes is no longer viable in today’s market. We are now sourcing land for new multi-unit developments, utilizing modular construction and innovative building practices to address the housing crisis.

Volunteering + Events

Supported Volunteering Individuals or Small Groups

At Habitat HMD, we believe in creating an inclusive and supportive community for everyone. Our volunteer program is specifically designed to offer meaningful opportunities for individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to contribute, learn, and grow. These opportunities require the volunteer to be accompanied by their caregiver/support staff at all times while volunteering. Please have both the volunteer and caregiver/support staff complete the application form and one of our Volunteer Department staff will be in touch.
