DKMS is an international non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of patients with blood cancer and blood disorders.
"Hi! My name is Alicja. When I was 18, I registered as a potential bone marrow donor. Several years went by, and I had almost forgotten I was in the registry.
Then, in September 2024, I got a phone call, and deep down, I knew what it was about. 📞
It turned out my "genetic twin" was sick and needed my help. I didn't hesitate for a second, and with tears in my eyes, I agreed to help someone I didn’t know. ❤️
The coordinator from the DKMS Foundation explained everything to me, and we got started. After a series of tests, I was told I was healthy and there were no reasons I couldn’t be a donor. Throughout the whole process, I had the full support of the DKMS Foundation team and the medical staff.
Did the donation hurt?
Not at all. The injections weren’t pleasant, though. 😁 The entire procedure took 5 hours, and I was always under the care of nurses and doctors. ❤️
I’m proud to say I’m a donor – I donated stem cells that will go to a woman in the United States! Would I do it again? Absolutely!
Will you help? Because you can – it’s in your genes!
I encourage you to register as a potential bone marrow donor. Maybe you’ll be the one to save a life!"
The DKMS Foundation offers comprehensive support to patients with blood cancers, assisting with access to treatment, rehabilitation, and providing essential emotional and financial help during their therapy.
The "Gift of the DKMS Foundation" program supports hematology departments by funding the purchase of specialized medical equipment and upgrading clinics, significantly improving the quality of care for patients with hematologic diseases.
