THE LBT CORPORATION'S PURPOSE IS TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE A LARGE OPTICAL OBSERVATORY FOR ASTRONOMICAL RESEARCH WHICH WILL EXPAND HUMANITY'S KNOWLEDGE OF SPACE FROM THE VICINITY OF EARTH TO THE EDGE OF THE OBSERVABLE UNIVERSE.

THE AMERICAN ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY (AAS), ESTABLISHED IN 1899, IS THE MAJOR ORGANIZATION OF PROFESSIONAL ASTRONOMERS IN NORTH AMERICA. THE BASIC OBJECTIVE OF THE AAS IS TO PROMOTE THE ADVANCEMENT OF ASTRONOMY AND CLOSELY RELATED BRANCHES OF SCIENCE THE MEMBERSHIP (APPROXIMATELY 7,000) ALSO INCLUDES PHYSICISTS, MATHEMATICIANS, GEOLOGISTS, ENGINEERS AND OTHERS WHOSE RESEARCH INTERESTS LIE WITHIN THE BROAD SPECTRUM OF SUBJECTS NOW COMPRISING CONTEMPORARY ASTRONOMY.

Astrophysical Research Consortium operates two telescopes at the Apache Point Observatory. There is a 3.5-meter general purpose telescope and a survey specialized 2.5-meter Sloan Foundation telescope. The telescopes have distinct purposes in the service of their constituencies.

TO ADVANCE ASTRONOMICAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION BY CONSTRUCTING AND OPERATING THE WIYN OBSERVATORY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ALLOWING THE SCIENTISTS OF THE MEMBER PARTIES TO OBTAIN OBSERVING TIME.

NORTHEAST RADIO OBSERVATORY CORPORATION IS A CONSORTIUM OF EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS WHOSE MISSION IS TO (1) STUDY THE STRUCTURE OF OUR GALAXY AND THE UNIVERSE, (2) ADVANCE SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF OUR PLANET AND ITS ATMOSPHERE, (3) DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY FOR RADIO SCIENCE APPLICATIONS, AND (4) CONTRIBUTE TO THE EDUCATION OF FUTURE SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS.

TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY AS A HOME FOR SCIENCE LITERACY, EDUCATION, AND PUBLIC ASTRONOMY THROUGH RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND ADVOCACY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COMMUNITY.

The Mount Wilson Institute provides access to the facilities of Mount Wilson observatory to visiting scientists, educators and the General public while servicing, maintaining and upgrading the overall facilities of the observatory.
