City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, helping to feed the nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers struggling to put meals on the table.
“As a single parent, I have two children to feed. What I save on fruits and vegetables sometimes is what I’m paying in childcare.”

“I’m now on disability, and I live with my son, who also has a disability. We only receive $15 in SNAP a month. The City Harvest Mobile Market is a great help because we save money and get nutritious produce like watermelon.”
– City Harvest Queensbridge Mobile Market Participant
“I have been volunteering at the Dyckman Mobile Market since it started in 2012. I know most of the people who come here every month to get fruits and vegetables. They can’t afford to grocery shop at many of the stores in this neighborhood. I see how this market helps them, and we are all so appreciative of City Harvest.”
– City Harvest Dyckman Mobile Market Community Volunteer
Through our Mobile Markets, City Harvest delivers fresh fruits and vegetables, free of charge, to thousands of New Yorkers each month. Community members gather in farmers’ market settings, where they receive fresh produce.
At City Harvest, we work hard to bring more healthy food to our neighbors in need, but we also believe it is important to teach the basics of nutrition alongside healthy cooking and eating skills.
Our Healthy Retail staff works with corner stores and supermarkets across New York City to ensure that desired and usable fresh fruits and vegetables are easily available and affordable in all communities.
We engage elected officials at the city, state, and federal levels to help shape policies that address hunger and food insecurity. We advocate for equity and inclusion in the decision making process that shapes the local food system.
City Harvest volunteers help ensure that good food doesn’t go to waste. Whether you have experience in teaching and nutrition, are interested in working with local farmers, or simply want to give back to your community, your passion and time are important resources in the fight against hunger.
Volunteers from hundreds of companies and community organizations located in New York City generously donate their time to help City Harvest feed our city. Find out how you and your group can team up to help feed our neighbors.
