The Institute includes state-of-the-art teaching labs, the spectacular Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, a historic tall ship, and an oceanographic research vessel. Immersion-based field trips range from one-hour science labs to multi-day programs at sea. All programs are designed to maximize immersion, spark curiosity, and inspire a deep commitment to learning.

The Ocean Institute welcomes more than 50,000 visitors each year, serving as a vibrant hub for ocean exploration and learning in Dana Point. Annually, we provide hands-on educational experiences to approximately 14,000 students through our school-year field trip programs and engage nearly 2,000 campers each summer. Beyond these core programs, our public and community offerings extend our reach even further, connecting countless individuals to the ocean through immersive, place-based education that inspires curiosity, stewardship, and a lifelong connection to the sea.
