Girls in the Game

EstablishedSocial ButterflySolid Support

Girls in the Game empowers girls to find their voice, discover their strength, and build confidence through fun and active sports, health, and leadership programs. Since its founding in 1995, the organization has served more than 65,000 girls, primarily from under-resourced communities in Chicago.

With a focus on the whole girl—addressing her physical, emotional, and mental well-being—Girls in the Game offers age-appropriate, evidence-based programming for girls ages 7 to 18. These programs are designed to keep girls engaged from childhood through adolescence, equipping them with lifelong skills to lead healthy, confident, and successful lives. Our programs include After School Programs, Teen Programs, one-day events, and a Summer Camp.

What began as a small effort to ensure girls had access to sports has grown into a comprehensive organization that listens to what girls need—whether it’s leadership development, health education, or physical activity—and meets them where they are.

"Girls in the Game was introduced to me during gym class. When a coach approached me, while playing tennis, I was battling self-doubt. The coach gave me the reassurance to keep trying. Not only did Girls in the Game offer me a safe space to find my inner self, but it gave me the support and resources to learn, grow and become the woman I am today. Girls in the Game provokes change in the lives of young girls." - Jocabed Leyva, former Girls in the Game participant

Programs

After School Programs

In our After School Programs, girls learn new sports and health and leadership topics once a week with two dedicated coaches. Girls learn familiar sports like basketball and soccer alongside new sports like yoga, lacrosse or track and field, all while discussing important topics like positive body image or bullying.

Sports & Leadership Summer Camp

For four weeks in July, girls from all over Chicago come together to learn new sports with guest coaches, learn about leadership, take field trips, and so much more! We provide lunch and free transportation so all girls can participate no matter their family's resources.

Teen Squad

Teens learn real leadership skills through the Teen Squad Program. We train teens with our curriculum so that they can coach younger girls at clinics in their communities. Teens go on career visits, tour potential colleges, and earn scholarship money for their future education.

Game Days & Clinics

We use one-time programs like Game Days and Clinics to introduce Girls in the Game to new schools and sites, as well as engage girls across all our different programs. Girls learn new sports with guest coaches and teens lead a rotation for younger girls.
