Siena Literacy Center provides effective education programs for adults seeking to improve their ability to successfully meet the challenges of everyday living by learning foundational skills in reading, writing, and math, and English as a Second Language.
The positive atmosphere of Siena’s new GED math class gave Joi Gatewood exactly the push she needed to complete her education. “I found a lot of help in the staff and the peers I would meet,” she said. “There was a camaraderie when you entered the classroom. There was a level of care we made sure we all had for each other.” Joi earned her GED in May and is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology so she can become a mental health therapist.
We match adult learners with trained volunteer tutors who provide individualized instruction in reading, math, and English language.
GED students attend small group classes and 1:1 tutoring sessions to prepare for each of the four GED tests so they can earn higher wages, enroll in post-secondary education, or start a skilled trades program.
We have students waiting right now to be matched with volunteer tutors to help them reach their goals. If you have 2-3 hours a week to volunteer, YOU can make a difference in the life of one of these individuals.
Siena provides all training and materials (no teaching experience necessary!). In-person volunteers are needed in reading, math, and English as a second language.
