Hospice of the Red River Valley

Established

The mission of Hospice of the Red River Valley is to provide comfort and care through life’s journey.

Riding in a hot air balloon is a once-in-a-lifetime, bucket-list experience for most people. For Mary Sluke, soaring over beautiful lakes country meant even more, as she lives with Multiple System Atrophy—an incurable, progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. With the help of Hospice of the Red River Valley, the weight of Mary’s disease lessened as she flew in a hot air balloon among the birds and over the idyllic lakes landscape.

27,000+
In 1981 a small group of visionaries understood the value of providing end-of-life care to patients and their families, where and when they needed it. From that vision, we have responded to the needs of dying and grieving people by expanding into areas where we’ve been invited and staying where we are needed – serving more than 27,000 individuals and their families. The values embraced by the early dreamers and believers—respect for the dignity of people, belief in the quality of life, a willingness to serve and a commitment to caring – have sustained the organization and provided direction for the future.

Hospice Care

In 1981, Hospice of the Red River Valley was founded on the fundamental belief that everyone deserves access to high-quality end-of-life care. We fulfill our nonprofit mission by providing medical, emotional, personal and spiritual care, as well as grief support to our patients, their families and caregivers during a tender time in life.

Our staff helps those we serve experience more meaningful moments through exceptional hospice care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, wherever a patient calls home.

Spread across more than 40,000 square miles in North Dakota and Minnesota, Hospice of the Red River Valley offers round-the-clock availability via phone, prompt response times and same-day admissions, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Contact us anytime at 800-237-4629 or hrrv.org.

Community Grief Support

Our grief department includes professionally trained, compassionate grief specialists who provide support groups, end-of-life education, presentations and one-on-one meetings. They also offer literature, resources and referrals, as needed, to help you cope with your grief and work toward healing.

Our grief program is a community resource available to anyone who has experienced a loss through death, whether they had hospice services or not. We provide services to families, individuals, schools, churches and workplaces. Our services are offered free of charge to adults, youth and families coping with the death of a loved one of any age. If your loved one died while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, you can receive grief support services, free of charge, for up to 13 months following a death.

We welcome the opportunity to help guide your journey from grief to hope. If you or a loved one needs grief support, please contact us at (800) 237-4629.
