Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation

The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is dedicated to changing the future of cancer by funding advanced, innovative research that treats the cancer while sparing the patient.

CARES is an established 501(c)3 and a national identity in the cancer community. CARES, which stands for Cancer Alliance for Research, Education, and Survivorship, is creating a cancer network built upon strong partnerships with leading institutions, cancer support groups, and researchers to improve the quality of life and provide better outcomes for those diagnosed with cancer.

Our founder Scott Hamilton is not new to philanthropy, cancer, or skating. Scott Hamilton is an Olympic Gold Medalist, skating analyst and commentator, actor, performer, producer, Emmy Award nominee, best-selling author, role model, humanitarian, philanthropist, and a cancer and three-time brain tumor survivor. Even more importantly for Scott, he is a husband and father to four beautiful children. As a figure skater and keynote speaker, he exudes enthusiasm and inspiration, forever bridging the gap between sports and entertainment. As a cancer survivor, he is a constant reminder that with fortitude and determination, anything is possible. Scott’s much publicized bout with testicular cancer in 1997, followed by his November 2004 diagnosis and recurrences in July 2010 and August 2017 of a benign brain tumor has touched him with a special insight into life and human vulnerabilities.

We partner with our Scientific Advisory Committee, comprised of the nation’s top doctors and scientists in cancer research, to vet the best research and funding needs. Our cancer research grants focus on immunotherapy treatment for many types of cancer in both adults and pediatrics. To date, CARES has funded 88 research projects with some of these being year-over-year projects paving the way into clinical trials. Among others, we are proud to have funded studies that led to published research for Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

Sk8 To Elimin8 Cancer

Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ is a trademarked peer to peer fundraising program for CARES. By working with hockey players across the country, we empower the hockey community to make a difference and fundraise for cancer research. Each Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ fundraiser in the hockey community concludes with a 3v3 Tournament, shinney hockey, or a Frozen 5k that is fun for the whole family. Through Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ players skate to honor a cancer connection and celebrate their fundraising success alongside donors and sponsors.

Since the inception of Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™, CARES has worked with the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Vegas Golden Knights. An ongoing relationship with CARES and the NHL includes components to engage and empower hockey players and the NHL fan base both on and off the ice to ignite a movement in the fight against cancer. Our team at CARES believes in the power of connecting NHL players to the next generation of players through a common cause.
