Alta Marea Winterguard
Alta Marea Winterguard is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in performance and teamwork. We strive to present performances that will be emotionally compelling and inspire both performers and audiences. Our mission is to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where members grow as individuals, strengthen their skills, and build lifelong friendships.
Alta Marea Winterguard (Alta Marea is translated from Italian meaning high tide) is an indoor performance ensemble made up of students who attend The University of Alabama. By definition, winter guard is an indoor performance sport that combines dance, flag spinning, rifle and saber work, and theatrical elements to create a performance choreographed to music. Unlike traditional color guard, which performs with marching bands on football fields, winter guard takes place in gyms and arenas. These venues allow for more intricate choreography and show design. Even though these students attend The University of Alabama, Alta Marea receives no financial support from The University of Alabama. Team members must balance tuition and academic responsibilities with the costs of equipment, costumes, travel, and competition fees in order to participate in regional and national events including WGI World Championships. In 2024, Alta Marea was the sliver medalist at World Championships and we are currently working on our new production for this year. Any contribution, big or small, helps these talented students pursue their passion for performing and proudly represent their team.
