Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro (BGCP) has supported youth since 1946, providing safe spaces, positive mentors, and enriching programs for ages 6–18. Centered on Sport & Play, STEAM, Financial Empowerment, and Life & Career Pathways, BGCP helps close opportunity gaps and prepare young people for brighter futures. Each year, the organization empowers hundreds of youth, most from BIPOC and low-income households, to thrive beyond the limits of their zip code.

“The Club gave me the guidance, support, and opportunities to grow in ways I never thought possible. My mentors encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, helping me gain confidence, develop new skills, and discover my passions. Programs like Youth of the Year and Future Filmmakers didn’t just teach me skills—they showed me what I’m capable of and gave me a vision for my future. Because of the Club, I feel empowered to pursue my dreams and know that I have people who believe in me every step of the way.” - Nambi, Teen Member, Youth of the Year 2024
Sport & Play is a core focus at our Clubs, giving youth in N/NE Portland and East County access to active play and team sports. Beyond building healthy habits and life skills, it exposes them to new sports and careers in areas like marketing, design, and sports business.
Our STEAM programming, grounded in a racial equity and social justice framework, provides youth with enrichment opportunities during out-of-school hours to address gaps in learning, access, and exposure. Through hands-on, project-based activities—like coding and game design—youth build critical skills, achieve academic benchmarks, and gain the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in school, careers, and beyond.
Financial literacy is a core part of our Clubs’ approach, helping youth build the skills and knowledge needed to achieve long-term economic empowerment and mobility. Starting as early as age 6, our programs teach money management and personal finance, equipping youth to thrive personally and professionally in careers aligned with their passions.
BGCP’s Life & Career Pathways program equips youth with the skills, experiences, and exposure needed to succeed in life, school, and work. Through internships, certifications, career workshops, job shadowing, and entrepreneurial projects, members explore opportunities beyond their zip codes while connecting their interests and strengths to potential career paths.
