Radio Days

Radio Days is a live performance and multimedia project that uses the timeless music of the 1920s–1950s to rekindle civic pride, connect generations, and reawaken a sense of national identity in the lead-up to America’s 250th anniversary. Anchored by acclaimed tenor Norman Reinhardt—whose career spans the world’s top opera houses and whose connection to American standards was solidified through roles like West Side Story—this initiative blends historical education, musical storytelling, and immersive performance to remind Americans of their shared cultural heritage.

The project centers around a curated program of classic American songs drawn from iconic Broadway musicals, films, and big band standards. Through live performances, video interviews, and storytelling, Radio Days aims to:

-Celebrate America’s musical and cultural legacy for the 250 year anniversary.

-Build intergenerational bridges by engaging older Americans through the music of their youth while introducing younger audiences to the ideals embedded in mid-20th-century American song. This will also work to build local social capital.

-Foster civic awareness and patriotism through narrative performance that links the emotional power of these songs to America’s founding ideals—hope, perseverance, and the pursuit of a better future.

Radio Days, while inspired by America's 250th anniversary, has a broad appeal and aligns with other event and programming focuses.
