Sunset Park Cats is a 501(c)(3) organization focused on reducing the population of feral, stray, and homeless cats on the streets of Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
Sunset Park Cats was formed in response to the crisis of homeless cats living on the streets, in the back alleys and in the backyards of Sunset Park. In July 2019 we discovered an unmanaged colony of 30+ cats living in one alley, and began working to trap-neuter-return (TNR) them. We transformed this original colony and still manage it to this day. We began exploring other areas of the neighborhood and found that the cat overpopulation crisis could be seen on almost every block in Sunset Park. We have rescued cats and kittens and worked on TNR projects in many areas of the neighborhood.
Our main approach is TNR, which is the most humane practice to stop the breeding cycle and reduce the feral cat population. Friendly cats and kittens that we rescue are taken into our fostering and adoption program.
