"The Greater Vancouver Food Bank was set up as a temporary relief to the hunger crisis in 1983 and has grown significantly in the four decades since then. Today the GVFB provides assistance to approximately 16,000 individuals monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the North Shore. 60% of the food distributed by the GVFB goes to individuals in four locations across our catchment area: Vancouver (60%), Burnaby (24%), New Westminster (9%), and the North Shore (7%). We support an ever-growing average of 16,000+ lives a month, 25% of whom are children, and 20% are seniors. The remaining 40% of the food distributed goes to our network of Community Agency Partners (CAPs). A Rede de Bancos de Alimentos do Rio Grande do Sul foi criada em 2007, com o objetivo de ampliar as atividades do Banco de Alimentos de Porto Alegre, o primeiro Banco de Alimentos criado no Brasil. A Rede visa estabelecer uma padronização de serviços e alinhamento da metodologia, levando os benefícios do Banco de Alimentos para todo o Estado. Atualmente são 25 Bancos de Alimentos associados no Rio Grande do Sul, abrangendo 31 municípios e seguindo a mesma sistemática de trabalho, levando alimento, saúde e segurança alimentar para as comunidades carentes.
