A Kids Place Of Tampa Bay

Programming ProHometown Hero

A Kids Place Of Tampa Bay falls under the Family Services category: A Kid’s Place has five homes on an expansive tree-lined campus that provide a safe, home-like environment in a neighborhood setting. Our residential program services children from birth to age 18, who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. We provide a variety of services which meet the social, educational, medical, and psychological needs of each child. Our primary focus is to keep sibling groups together in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment until a more permanent placement can be provided.

Terrance and his siblings were placed in foster care when he was four years old. He was an angry little boy who acted with such great aggression that he had been labeled “difficult” and “delayed.” House Parent Anita had a special place in her heart for the little boy who just didn’t fit the mold for what society thought he should be, and she took him under her wing, spending as much time with him as possible. Terrance helped her peel carrots for dinner, load laundry into the dryer, and sweep the front porch. He became her shadow, and each day she talked soothingly to him, telling him what a great boy he was, what a help he was to her, and how much she loved him. Terrance began to blossom and his anger ebbed way. Terrance didn’t end up needing the special programs he’d been labeled for; he entered kindergarten that fall and thrived in his classroom.

Educational Programs

From the alphabet to numbers, science to imaginative play, our toddlers and pre-schoolers are steeped in fun and learning, blossoming as they are stimulated both educationally and socially. The Hillsborough County Classroom at A Kid’s Place is a place where children in grades Kindergarten through 5th can be given the extra attention they deserve in order to catch up with their classmates at grade level. Our Education Center provides a dedicated space for homework, tutoring, and virtual classes to help students excel.

Kepping Siblings Connected - Residential Services

Residential Foster Care ensures that the needs of children are met when they can not live with their own family. We provide a variety of services which meet the social, educational, medical, and psychological needs of each child. This also includes exposure to fun activities and experiences that create memories that will last a lifetime. A Kid’s Place is based on a live-in House Parent model that allows brothers and sisters to live on-site with House Parents who provide a healthy and nurturing home. Family style meals, outings, support at school functions, medical appointments, and other day to day activities provide a loving and normal existence to foster children.

Independent Living

At A Kid’s Place, we understand the importance of equipping our children with the skills they need to successfully transition into adulthood. With our Independent Living Program, youth participate in various training to include: personal health and hygiene, basic cooking and cleaning, financial literacy, giving back through volunteering, and employment among other things. Our hope is that throughout their time spent at A Kid’s Place, the Independent Living Program will teach them how to live without constant supervision and feel confident to maneuver their way through life.
