Our Mission: To be the solution to companion animal overpopulation & homelessness from MN to Mexico by offering free spay/neuter clinics for owned and homeless dogs and cats

Pet Project Rescue was started in response to the needs of street animals on Isla Mujeres, Mexico in 2008. Many of these animals live in desperate conditions, where they must fight to stay alive each day on the street. It is a heart-wrenching site for any animal lover, and once you have seen one of these adorable dogs or cats it is impossible not to want to do something to help them. And this is where the story of Pet Project Rescue began…

During Maia’s, our founder, time in Mexico she had the opportunity to work alongside animal advocates all over the Riviera Maya and instantly fell in love with all the street animals. She understood the need to humanely control unchecked breeding, and that meant volunteering to support spay & neuter programs and end the cycle of life on the streets for these animals.

Since 2008 thousands of animals have been cared for and the number of street animals continues to decrease, while education of good pet ownership continues through our wonderful partners in the region.

As of April 2009, PPR began working with our local Minneapolis animal control to rescue local cats and dogs. We strongly support the animals in our local area as well, and we knew that we had to get to the root of the problem and be the solution to pet overpopulation and homelessness in MN

too. After 10 years of operating, it became clear that the only way we would ever empty our shelters was to get serious about spay/neuter programs and education. In 2018 we shifted our focus from rescue, to what we also saw working in Mexico, and put our hard work into preventing unwanted and unplanned litters through spay/neuter programs – with the goal of reducing

the number of animals entering shelters and needing rescue. We believe we will solve animal suffering by dedicating ourselves to spay and neuter!

These animals know the hard life, and they know the good life…and they will let you know each and every day how grateful they are for your help!

Trap-Neuter-Return

Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program addresses the needs of community cats living on the streets of Minneapolis through spay/neuter. Our program aims to reduce the suffering and overpopulation of community cats in a safe and humane way, as well as reducing the euthanasia of “unadoptable” cats in local shelters. PPR’s TNR program played an integral part in our local shelter reaching a 90% save rate (as of 2020).

Mexico Spay/Neuter Clinics

Pet Project Rescue continues to support animals and low-income pet owners through our free spay and neuter clinics. You can help us reach our goal of holding weekly free spay/neutering clinics for dogs and cats with a donation of any size today!

Millions of dogs and cats roam the streets of Mexico, looking for shelter, food, and a kind human to save them from life on the streets. While rescuing and re-homing every homeless animal in Mexico, a country with the highest number of homeless animals in all of Latin America , is a massive project, we work alongside many Mexican rescue partners to save lives while preventing future generations of homeless animals through our spay/neuter clinics.

Providing spay/neuter for owned and street animals greatly improves two major animal issues in Mexico, overpopulation and homelessness! Preventing more puppies and kittens from being born on the streets is our main mission in Mexico. PPR hosts vet clinics that offer free spay/neuter services to owners and community animal caregivers, while providing a solution to companion animal homelessness.
