Fellowship

The hackNY Fellows Program is a Summer-long experience for college students pursuing a future in tech. The program is made up of three pillars: Immersion, Experience, and Community.

Immersion: All fellows are housed together in the heart of New York City with access to all the city has to offer in the Summer - from subways to Smorgasburg! Mentors plan excursions to cultural hotspots and points-of-interest to help each fellow learn and grow in NYC.

Experience: Each fellow is matched with a tech company in NYC as a paid intern. The pool of tech companies available to fellows comes from hackNY’s extensive group of partner companies. Fellows are put in an active role in their matched company and form long-lasting connections with major players in tech including their co-workers, other fellows, and influential speakers.

Community: Joining hackNY places you in a rapidly-growing community of diverse alumNY. Through events such as Workshops, the Speaker Series, group dinners, and more, hackNY brings different experiences and interests together to form a cohesive and inclusive community. Fellows have the opportunity to meet our startup friends and alumNY at mixers and our annual Demo Night celebration.

Hackathons & Events

Every spring and fall, hundreds of students from scores of universities around the country flock to hackNY’s Student Hackathons, where they participate in collaborative and creative coding challenges in a 24-hour coding sprint. The events open with API demos from New York City startups. and then students work in teams to build projects. Students work around the clock, and the event culminates in a presentation before a panel of judges the next day.

hackNY is proud to be an event where hackers of all backgrounds and experiences are welcome. Our Technical Ambassadors program invites diverse mentors from the New York tech community to support our hackers as they develop their ideas and debug. Our awards recognize attributes like good design, technical skill, and learning. They celebrate all kinds of hacks from webapps to hardware, and we will continue our new tradition of awarding a “Best Hack for Social Good”. We also feature workshops for beginner and advanced hackers to gain more skills and experience.
