Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation is a 501c3, no-kill animal shelter in the City of Chicago. Founded in 2001, we have proudly saved the lives of over 8,000 dogs who would otherwise be homeless, and worse, euthanized.
We take into our care dogs from kill shelter facilities who have such a high intake count, they do not have the space nor resources to maintain a no-kill facility. We also partner with and house rescued animals from national animal rescue agencies who serve to bust illegal puppy mills across the country. Additionally, we have a network of affiliate partners in rural areas we support who lack the resources to operate an adoption program and seek our help.
Our small but mighty team provides medical treatment, emotional and behavioral support, adoption and foster program services to each animal that comes into our care; in addition to running the long list of day-to-day responsibilities of our shelter such as cleaning, feeding, walking the animals, and so much more.

If you are interested in adopting a dog you see on our website, please submit an application which can be found here:
https://chicagocaninerescue.org/adopt/animal-adoption-application/
We will screen your application upon receipt and our adoption counselor will follow up with you once complete, usually within 3-7 business days, to set up a meet and greet with the dog(s) you are interested in at our shelter.
After we receive the application, an adoption counselor will contact you via email within 48 hours to set up an appointment for your family to meet the dog(s) here at the shelter. The entire household including existing dogs must meet the new dog before an adoption can take place.
When your application is approved, and the meet & greet goes well, you may expect to take your new best friend home with you!
Chicago Canine Rescue is looking for loving homes to temporarily foster dogs in need!
Foster parents provide temporary housing, care, love, and training to their foster dog while CCR finds their forever home. It’s a safe place for a newly rescued dog to rest, recuperate, and recover while they wait for the perfect place to come along!
By fostering, you can help us save more lives – fostering makes space at the shelter for more dogs in need, as well as providing our dogs with the happiest, healthiest experience possible for their stay in “the system.”
As a foster parent, you can rely on CCR to provide all the support you need to temporarily care for an animal – we will provide medical care, behavioral support, supplies, and any thing else you need. You just provide the love!
If you can open your home and heart to a dog for even a couple of weeks at a time, you can help save a life! Please fill out the application to get started today:

The shelter can be a stressful place. Unfortunately, for many dogs the experience of being in the shelter is more than just stressful—it can be traumatic. One of the biggest difficulties shelters face today is providing support and care to those dogs who are struggling more than most.
Shelter stress, medical needs, and past trauma can lead to challenging behaviors that make it very difficult for a shelter dog to find its forever home.
It is the sad truth that shelter behavior does not always mirror home behavior and often prevents dogs from finding homes. Stress-related behavior causes dogs to be perceived as unfriendly, disorderly, or overly difficult, when in reality they have simply fallen victim to a situation that makes them feel lost, frightened, and insecure.
Additionally, the cost of treatment and necessary recovery time for certain medical conditions—including dental disease, heartworm disease, and other common illnesses—can also cause delays.
Chicago Canine Rescue seeks to break the shelter-stress cycle through our new initiative, A Helping Paw. Whether the donations are allocated towards professional training or medical care, a Helping Paw provides long-stay dogs with that extra support needed to help them find their forever home.
We invite individuals and corporate sponsors to please consider supporting A Helping Paw and sign up for a recurring monetary donation to help us continue providing critical training and medical attention to help facilitate the transition from shelter dog to forever home and increase adoptions of long-stay dogs.

Chicago Canine Rescue relies on the donations of our monthly giving program members to be able to transport, house, and care for over 600 dogs a year. Help us reach our goal of 300 new members:
