We help people move their lives forward through basic needs services and personalized support.
Sixty-year-old Kerry never expected to find himself on the other side of Valley Outreach’s services. A former donor, Kerry had generously supported others in his community when he was able. But in July 2025, life took an unexpected turn.
Kerry, a former business owner, had faced serious setbacks before. In 2013, a financial scam forced him to close his businesses, and in August 2024, a car accident left him with a severe neck injury. Unable to work, his bills quickly piled up, leaving him with more than $7,000 in overdue rent and utilities.
Valley Outreach and partners stepped in: $4,500 in rental assistance from a combination of Valley Outreach internal funds and FHPAP funds, $750 from St. Vincent de Paul, $500 from St. Paul Lutheran, $150 from the 30-Days Foundation for utilities, and $1,450 from Kerry himself. His landlord graciously waived late fees, helping him stabilize his housing. Reflecting on that support, Kerry said, “Even if you are a millionaire, at some point you still may need help in some way.”

Food Shelf
Valley Outreach makes it easier for people to access healthy, nutritious food while promoting individual choice. As a SuperShelf, we prioritize fresh, nutritious foods and make it easy for shoppers to find healthy options throughout the food shelf. Shoppers can choose from a variety of grocery products, including fresh produce, eggs, milk, frozen meats, cooking ingredients and pantry staples.
Last year, Valley Outreach distributed 2,381,552 pounds of food, equal to approximately 2 million meals to people in the community. All of our services are available free of charge. Food shelf shoppers can visit Valley Outreach in Stillwater once each month for an in-person shopping visit, with an additional pickup option available as needed.
StyleXchange
StyleXchange, Valley Outreach’s clothing shop, provides free clothing and essential items for individuals and families. Shoppers can find both basic and brand-name clothing for the entire family, including everyday essentials, workplace apparel, children’s clothing and seasonal items. During the winter months, we also provide cold-weather gear to help keep community members safe and warm.
Last year, Valley Outreach distributed 118,000 clothing and household items at no cost, including 5,600 winter gear items. In addition to providing free clothing, StyleXchange operates as a thrift store open to the public. All revenue from thrift store sales goes directly back into Valley Outreach programs, helping support our work to meet basic needs in the community.
Client Support Services
We know that systems for accessing support can be complicated, and our Client Support Services team helps individuals and families understand their options and navigate available resources.
We provide personalized support based on each client’s individual needs, including resource and application support, case management, homelessness prevention support and financial assistance for eligible clients. Our professional staff and trained volunteers work one-on-one with clients through phone or in-person meetings to help them identify resources, complete applications and work toward greater stability.
Last year, Valley Outreach provided more than 1,600 client support services to 298 households, including homelessness prevention support for 171 individuals and families.

Volunteer at Valley Outreach!
Valley Outreach is community-powered, and volunteers are an essential part of how we serve thousands of people each year. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups and youth, with flexible time slots and roles to fit different interests and schedules.
Volunteers can help support our Food Shelf as a donation attendant, food rescue driver, warehouse volunteer, or food shelf volunteer. Volunteers can also help at StyleXchange by sorting clothing and assisting in the store. Some volunteer positions require additional training, skills, experience or a background check. All volunteers attend an orientation to learn more about Valley Outreach, our programs, and how they can make a difference.
Whether you have a few hours to give or want to become a regular volunteer, your time helps make our work possible and strengthens our community.
