Girls on the Run Rhode Island

We inspire youth to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Designed to enhance participants' social, emotional and physical skills to successfully navigate life experiences, our fun, interactive lessons meet the unique needs of participants of all abilities and backgrounds.

“This season we had a girl who is new to the school, has moved around the world as one of her parents is military, and she has had a lot of trouble connecting with her peers. A staffer suggested Girls on the Run, and while mom was uncertain, the daughter said yes and is loving it! Her family and teachers are too–they say there is something new inside her giving her confidence and a new level of ambition. She is smiling more and is so excited to have GOTR friends. Win, win, win, win!”

Girls on the Run

3rd-5th Grades

The Girls on the Run program for 3rd-5th graders inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

Heart & Sole

6th-8th Grades

Our Heart & Sole middle school program is designed to meet the unique needs of 6th-8th grade girls of all abilities. The program considers the whole person – body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection. Heart & Sole offers an inclusive place of belonging, where participants feel supported and inspired to explore their emotions, cultivate empathy and strengthen their physical and emotional health. At the end of the season, all team members complete a 5K.

Camp GOTR

3rd-5th Grades

Camp GOTR provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for youth of all abilities to develop self-confidence and learn life skills in a fun, collaborative environment. Participants build friendships through interactive games, enjoy physical activities, and express creativity through arts and crafts and storytelling. Led by caring and qualified Girls on the Run coaches, Camp GOTR combines the best of the Girls on the Run program with all the fun of camp.

Volunteering + Events

Become a Coach

Each season, two or more trained volunteer coaches inspire and guide a team through a 10-week season of powerful and fun lessons. You do not need to be a runner; you simply need to have a desire to support and encourage the next generation! Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give. If you're ready to directly make an impact, then this role is for you.

Volunteer at our 5K

Grab your cheer gear! Our end-of-season celebratory 5K provides a tangible sense of accomplishment to participants. To celebrate and make the experience one to remember, there are many opportunities to get involved: as running buddies, at the registration table, at water stations along the course, distributing medals at the finish line, and helping participants at our pre-race activity stations.
