Women's Community Shelters

Women's Community Shelters

AU 🇦🇺

"Women’s Community Shelters works with communities to establish new shelters, which provide short term emergency accommodation and support in a safe environment that enables homeless women to rebuild self-esteem and achieve control and fulfilment of their lives. For a woman to get out of the situation she faces, she needs a range of support services, not just help finding affordable housing. These include access to counselling, health care, assistance to navigate government bureaucracy, legal help, further education and employment to reestablish control over her life." https://www.womenscommunityshelters.org.au/what-we-do/

Good Samaritan Inn

Good Samaritan Inn

AU 🇦🇺

"Good Samaritan Inn provides short-term crisis accommodation and support to around 250 women, children and young people every year. Our communal setting provides opportunities for mutual support and the companionship of others who share similar experiences of family violence. In recognition of the founders and trustees, the Sisters of the Good Samaritan and their Benedictine tradition, we extend hospitality to the women, children and young people who are all welcomed as guests at the Inn. Our communal model has benefitted many women, such as new mothers, women who are struggling with alcohol and drug dependency awaiting rehabilitation, and women who are extremely socially isolated."

Refuge UK

Refuge UK

London, GB 🇬🇧

"We opened the world’s first safe house for women and children in 1971. It was in Chiswick, West London. Women and children escaping domestic abuse flocked to our doors because, for the first time, someone was saying it was wrong to beat your partner. Back then, domestic abuse was seen as a “private matter”, to be dealt with behind closed doors. Society turned a blind eye. Since 1971, Refuge has led the campaign against domestic abuse. We’ve grown to become the country’s largest single provider of specialist domestic and gender-based violence services." https://refuge.org.uk/about-refuge/
