Kitchens For Good

StartupProgramming ProSocial Butterfly

Kitchens for good works to develop sustainable community kitchens that provide culinary job training for unemployed populations while simultaneously transforming local excess produce into nutritious meals for the community.

Becky came to Project Launch looking for a second chance at life. Having grown up in a home of sexual and physical abuse, Becky turned to gangs and drugs at age 14 in order to escape the pain of her home life. Becky spent the next 26 years of her life in a cycle of addiction, gangs, incarceration, and homelessness. In 2017 Becky applied and was accepted into Project Launch. After graduating, Becky was hired as a cook at Guahan Grill -- her first job ever. Since the start of her employment, Becky has been promoted 5 times! She is now the Restaurant Manager, and hiring other Kitchens for Good graduates to work in her kitchen. She has also been able to move into her own apartment, by a car, become reunited with her children, and go off all public benefits for the first time in her life. Becky is a firm believe in paying it forward. She comes in to speak to every class, and provide them with motivation and advice on their journey.

“Today I don’t live in the past. I live for my future. Kitchens for Good has given me my life back. I now walk with my head held high and with confidence. They have given me the skills to better my life. They had faith in me and now I have faith in myself.”
