City Year was founded in 1988 as a national service program to unite young adults for a demanding year of full-time community service. City Year has grown from 50 corps members in Boston to more than 2,000 members serving in 29 US cities, as well as in South Africa and the UK. National service helps young people develop into leaders, problem solvers and more active citizens. Reading Is Fundamental works to disrupt the alarming U.S. literacy crisis by inspiring the joy of reading in children, a critical element to driving the frequency, motivation, and engagement needed to create skilled readers. We know that if we build a foundation of joy for children, then development, discovery, and opportunity follow.

Who We Are and What We Do In partnership with clinicians, Reach Out and Read leverages the well-child visit, using books and shared reading to support caregivers in fostering early literacy and healthy relationships with infants and young children. The only literacy model endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Reach Out and Read annually serves 4.8 million children across every U.S. state.

At Communities In Schools, we believe that every student, regardless of their background or circumstances, should have what they need to realize their full potential in school and beyond. Through relationships with caring adults who work in schools and across communities, we connect students to school and community resources, so they show up to school prepared and ready to learn. Being Present Matters We show up for students by connecting them to the critical support and resources that they need in order to be successful in the classroom and beyond. Caring adults can make a huge difference in a student’s life. That’s why CIS site coordinators are the ultimate caring connectors, bringing support directly inside the school building to help students succeed.

First Book makes new books and resources affordable and available to the kids and educators who need them most.
